Improving Laundry Management With RFID Technology

RFID Tag, UHF RFID Tag

Owning a laundry business or managing a laundry service has its own unique issues and challenges. Clothes are considered as a necessity, people come in daily to have their clothes washed or to claim newly washed clothes, making laundry shops a good business idea. But running one comes with a set of challenges.

First, laundry shop owners have to keep track of whose laundry belongs to who, the batch of laundry due for pickup, and the maximum load capacity that the washer can handle. On top of that, there are still other tasks like pressing and folding. Altogether, it makes the management of laundry shops quite challenging.

RFID stands as a solution to resolve most of the challenges that laundry shop owners are currently facing. Apart from its ability to provide accurate wash count, RFID tool tracking system is beneficial to managing a laundry shop in many ways. Read on to find out how  RFID technology help with laundry management.

Less manual sorting of clothes

Companies or establishments that deal with multiple types of textiles such as hotels, hospitals, all have their own sorting process. Usually, this task is manned by people of more than five depending on the business size. Needless to say, this endeavour would take time – time that could be better focused on other areas.

If RFID is incorporated into the laundry management system, the need for manual sorting is minimised; RFID tags will be attached to each article of clothing for automatic sorting based on which type of textile it falls under. This is all made possible through a software that directs the laundry to its appropriate washer, and instead of more than five people attending to the sorting process, one or two people may be enough.

Organised washing

Just as RFID helps to automatically sort laundry, it also helps to make sure that a pile of laundry doesn’t get mixed with other laundry piles. This is a common mistake of laundry shops – the clothes that they wash could get mixed up. RFID can eliminate this error by classifying a laundry pile and each of its article by the name or ID of its owner.

Maintaining an orderly process in laundry is an essential practice, integrating RFID into the washing process is advantageous because it ensures tracking, productivity and accountability throughout the washing cycle.

Makes validation during pick-up simpler

When a customer comes in to pick up their laundry, the staff would usually take the receipt and manually look for the customer’s laundry pile amongst other customers’ pile. This task can be time consuming, especially if there is a sudden influx of customers dropping in and picking up their laundry.

If an RFID asset tracking system is integrated, the laundry piles will be organized. With a established and efficient pick-up system, staff can simply glance over their computers and quickly locate where each laundry pile is placed. Once a customer comes in to pick up their washed clothes, their pile can be handed over in a shorter time since the attending staff no longer needs to search through multiple laundry batches.

Integrating RFID into the laundry process is a good idea because it resolves most of the challenges that laundry shop owners or service providers have to oversome. RFID minimises the need of manual or physical labour, it makes the washing more organised, and it also makes locating laundry batches quicker.
